idaelius
a term coined by b0yvincian on twitter, faerielogy on tumblr on december 21st 2021.
idaelius is an identity in which, over periods of time, you become a different person or thing. this usually includes having a different orientation/gender/pronouns/view of yourself and can also extend to different hobbies, interests, and behaviours. this can last for hours or months, and usually reverts back to the original person or thing. they person or thing you become may be fictional, or not. you can be an aelius of someone/something multiple times. it is not inherently caused by being plural, otherkin/fictionkin, or having delusions, but it can be. being idaelius can be caused by anything, so there aren't terms for when it is specifically caused by something, like how system terms are often divided into endogenic and traumgenic. i do give people permission to make terms for idaelius.
externally, this may look similar to being a monoconscious system, where members share one consciousness and switching is more like 'becoming'. the individual knows, however, that they are not a system. the individual may still outwardly identify as plural/a collective/a system, as it is easier to explain. this experience can co-concur with being plural, otherkin/fictionkin, or having delusions, but it is not inherently so.
aelius: the person or thing you become. (similar to alter/headmate in systems)
primaelius: the main/most prominent identity that one usually goes back to. (similar to host in systems)
poetaelius: an aelius that is (based on) a fictional character. (similar to fictive in systems)
veraelius: an aelius that is (based on) a real person. (similar to factive in systems)
archaelius: an aelius that is not based on anything.
becoming: when you become a different aelius. (similar to switching in systems
note: i only add the example of systems because i assume most people reading this know about systems and it is easier to explain it using already existing terms.
examples of how to use these terms:
'i am idaelius. i was [x] for a week.'
'[x] was an aelius of mine. specifically, a poetaelius.'
'i became [x] yesterday evening. please use [z] pronouns for me now.'
the idaelius symbol
⋈ - bowtie
i chose this symbol because i think it looks good, and i had never seen it before so it would be very recognizable.
the flag
the flag was inspired by my systemflux flag, which is a very similar concept from when i was trying to figure myself out. the symbol on the flag is a symbol that represents something called an identity in math, so it's kind of fitting. the colors were chosen at random so if someone wants to try to come up with meanings; go ahead.
